Corporate Naturalistas

Hi Naturalistas,

I have been working on a series of reviews of Jamaican Naturalistas that have inspired me as much as I have inspired them. These ladies are sophisticated, beautiful, have absolutely gorgeous hair and you guessed it, they are holding their own in the corporate world.

My first natural is Keisha and like myself she has been natural all her life; though she plays around with colour a bit. She doesn't know it but she was one of my greatest inspiration to remain natural; I had the privilege of styling her hair and I was motivated not to become an addict of the creamy crack.

Keisha is a playful, bubbly, and very fashionable young lady. I had the opportunity to ask her a few questions about her natural hair and how it impacts her image and these were her answers:

Question: How long have you been natural? I have been natural all my life, the most I have ever done was cut my hair

Question: What made you decide to go back natural or remain natural? I remained natural because I love the versatility that comes with having natural hair, I can do whatever I want to do with it whenever and my hair can work with any style and change it the very next day or even the same day

Question: What is the biggest challenge you have with your natural hair? My biggest challenge…I cant seem to get my hair to fall down, once its out, it goes up

Question: What products do you use? I use raw shea butter, olive oil, Cantu coconut and Shea curling custard, jojoba oils, coconut oil and tea tree oil

Question: What is your favourite natural hairstyle? Chiney Bump

Question: How has being natural influenced your sense of style?  Well, because my hair is funky and fun, I just dress funky and fun too, I experiment with  many colours at the same time and wear shoes that have nothing to do with the outfit, but it works all the time

Question: What is your take on how naturals are viewed/treated in the office/corporate circles? Owing to the dawn of this natural hair era, it is more accepted now and natural sistas are considered to be more liberal and more fun and pure at heart.

Question: What advice would you give to other naturals or ladies thinking of going natural? My advice is, have fun with your hair, it responds to you the way you treat it. If you love your hair, it will show, people will see it in how you style it, it will show you its happy by helping to highlight your inner beauty when people look at you.
